This course takes an interdisciplinary approach to address the central role of culture in human development. It draws on diverse theoretical perspectives, including psychology, anthropology, education, ethnography, and linguistics, to understand human difference, experience, and complexity. Empirical reflections are taken upon major developmental topics such as cultural aspects of physical growth and development; culture and cognition; culture and language; culture, self, and personality; cultural construction of emotion; culture issues of sex and gender; and cultural differences in pathology.
