Course Description
Course information provided by the 2020-2021 Catalog.
Cornell undergraduates and Cornell Prison Education Program (CPEP) students at Auburn, Cayuga, Elmira and Five Points Correctional Facilities will join in a reading group, engaging together in in-depth analysis and appreciation of a single novel (James McBride's 2002 Miracle at St. Anna). Students will write responses to prompts about the novel provided by the instructors, submitting this writing by mail (CPEP students) or posting it to the course Canvas page. Responses will be shared around so that readers can respond to one another's interpretations and ideas about the text; faculty will also respond to what students write in order to further discussion and reflection. Technology allowing, reading group members will convene remotely for discussion through live videoconnection later in the semester. *For on-campus students, priority in enrollment will be given to those who have previously volunteered with CPEP in prison.
