MSE 4902

Course information provided by the 2025-2026 Catalog.

This course is a supplement to any, 2-credit or greater, materials-centric research involvement course within the university (typically Engineering or Arts and Sciences but open to any college). The combination of the research involvement course (for grade if offered) and this supplement will satisfy one of the materials application elective toward MSE graduation requirements. Submission of a 2-3 page research proposal detailing the expected outcomes of the involvement, approved by the research supervisor and course instructor, will be required prior to enrollment. Students will be expected to participate in both research group meetings with their mentors, and in a weekly (one hour) interdisciplinary research group meeting consisting of all students enrolled in this course. During these meetings, students will present ongoing research accomplishments to the diverse group, developing skills for technical communication across multiple audiences. Peer evaluations will be used to help students improve their presentation style. A final research report detailing the accomplishments over the semester will be required.
