This course prepares undergraduate Course Assistants (CAs) to provide effective academic support for students enrolled in a variety of Chemistry courses. Chemistry Course Assistants (CAs) facilitate review sessions, host drop-in office hours, and support problem-solving sessions and discussion components. Through guided practice, reflection, and discussion of effective teaching strategies, CAs will develop the skills necessary to facilitate student learning, communicate effectively, and help reduce barriers to academic success in these environments. Students will combine practical experience in their assigned chemistry courses with weekly learning opportunities that will touch on learning theory, instructional strategies, communication skills, and personal reflection.
Enrollment Priority Enrollment limited to: Permission of Department or Instructor.

Learning Outcomes
- Facilitate student learning in problem-solving sessions, office hours, laboratory settings, and other instructional environments.
- Employ questioning, scaffolding, and other evidence-based instructional strategies to support student understanding and independence.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, peers, graduate teaching assistants, and instructors as members of a teaching team.
- Analyze teaching and learning using concepts from course readings, discussions, and educational research.
- Reflect critically on their teaching experiences and use those reflections to identify strengths, challenges, and goals for continued growth as an educator.
- Demonstrate ethical and inclusive teaching practices that foster a supportive learning environment for diverse learners.
