Course Description
Course information provided by the 2026-2027 Catalog.
This course introduces students to the theory and practice of agent-based modeling and simulation. Topics to be discussed include: History of agent-based modeling, cellular automata and pattern formation, economic and game theoretic agent-based models, networked agent models, ecological and evolutionary agent-based models, and real-world applications.
Last 4 Terms Offered 2026FA
Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate the suitability of agent-based modeling for addressing complex adaptive systems involving heterogeneous actors, interactions, emergence, and adaptation.
- Design simulation experiments to investigate system behavior across alternative scenarios and policy interventions.
- Analyze implemented agent decision-making mechanisms through quantitative techniques including sensitivity analysis, parameter exploration, replication, and uncertainty assessment.
