Hands-on course in spreadsheet-based modeling and data analysis that complements the theory, skills, and modeling methods taught in other ORIE foundation courses. Students learn practical and efficient techniques to make data usable, creating effective data-driven dashboards, develop robust models to evaluate decisions, and solve decision problems using VBA-based heuristics. Microsoft Excel for Windows is heavily used. A wide variety of application areas are covered that incorporate concepts from probability, statistics, and constrained optimization.


Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: introductory courses in probability/statistics and optimization modeling (with emphasis on problem formulation), or permission of instructor.
