Course Description
Course information provided by the 2026-2027 Catalog.
This course aims to equip future designers and decision-makers of AI products and services with the knowledge and skills they need to maximize AI's societal benefits while minimizing its risks and harms. The course includes three modules: (1) Lay of the Land, which introduces the building blocks of human-AI interaction, e.g., what is AI, who are its human stakeholders, what data are involved, etc.; (2) Human-centered AI, which teaches students the meaning and design principles around AI explainability, intelligibility, and human-AI collaboration, allowing them to design AI systems that can effectively collaborate with users; (4) Society-centered AI, which teaches students the meaning and design principles around AI fairness and personalization, enabling them to design AI systems that that adapt to user behaviors while remaining resilient against bias and manipulation.
Prerequisites CS 3700 or CS 3780 or ECE 4200 or ORIE 3741 or STSCI 3740; INFO 3450 or INFO 4240.
Last 4 Terms Offered (None)
