NACCT 5235

Course information provided by the 2026-2027 Catalog.

The course is organized around a central premise: the accountant's traditional access to a business, sampling transactions, walking through processes, interviewing control owners, is being displaced by direct interrogation of the event data the business generates. Process mining permits the reconstruction of what actually happened in the order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, and record-to-report cycles across the entire population. Robotic process automation moves routine accounting work to software robots. Artificial intelligence introduces both a new class of analytical tool and a new class of risk requiring governance. Students confront each of these developments technically, through hands-on laboratory work, and critically, through case discussion drawn from PwC and EY Academic Resource Center (EYARC) materials.
