SYSEN 5424

Course information provided by the 2026-2027 Catalog.

This course provides an advanced, systems-level approach to the design, planning, scheduling, and control of enterprise systems. By integrating the structural principles of factory physics with powerful discrete-event simulation techniques, students will learn to analyze, model, and optimize complex enterprise/business environments.

Last 4 Terms Offered (None)

Learning Outcomes

  • Formulate and solve analytical operations models by applying the foundations of factory physics, queuing theory, and statistical inventory logistics to predict baseline system performance.
  • Design and construct detailed discrete-event simulation models using modern software (such as Arena) to accurately replicate the flows, resource constraints, and scheduling rules of complex enterprise environments.
  • Execute rigorous model verification and validation testing to ensure computer-based simulation logic accurately represents real-world system behavior and delivers statistically reliable predictive outputs.
  • Evaluate alternative operational policies and system behaviors by conducting multi-scenario experiments to analyze the impact of variability, bottlenecks, and scheduling adjustments on enterprise performance.
  • Optimize complex enterprise systems infrastructure by synthesizing mathematical models and simulation data to design efficient, high-performing workflows and resource allocations.
